Custom Software Development in Brisbane

Business software built around the way you already work — not another subscription you have to bend your process to fit. Fixed price agreed before we start, direct access to the developer writing it, and you own the code at the end.

Most Australian small businesses reach the same point. The spreadsheet that ran the place for five years now has eleven tabs, three people editing copies of it, and a formula nobody wants to touch. The off-the-shelf system you trialled did 60% of what you needed and charged per user for the privilege. And the gap between them is being filled by someone re-typing the same job details four times a day.

That gap is what custom software is for. Not a grand transformation project — one system that holds your jobs, your customers and your numbers in one place, shaped to the way your business actually runs.

What we build

Operations

Job & workflow management

Quote to job to completion to invoice, with the status of every job visible in one place instead of across a whiteboard, a diary and someone's inbox.

Sales

Quoting & estimating tools

Pricing logic that matches how you actually quote — your rates, your margins, your rules — producing a consistent number instead of a spreadsheet nobody can audit.

Scheduling

Rostering & dispatch

Who is where, on what, with what equipment. Built for the field, and readable on a phone in a ute.

Data

Reporting & dashboards

The three or four numbers that actually decide how the month went, calculated the same way every time and available without exporting anything.

Records

Inventory & asset tracking

Stock, plant and equipment tracked against jobs, with a history you can defend when a customer queries a charge.

Compliance

Forms, checklists & audit trails

Site inspections, safety checks and sign-offs captured digitally, timestamped, and retrievable years later without opening a filing cabinet.

Why a custom system beats another subscription

It matches your process, not the average of everyone else's. Off-the-shelf software is built for the middle of a market. If your business has an edge — the way you price, the way you schedule, the thing customers come to you for — that edge is usually the exact part the generic system cannot do.

The cost stops going up. Per-user-per-month pricing punishes you for growing. A custom system is a one-off build plus hosting; adding your eleventh employee costs nothing extra.

You own it. The source code and the data are yours, handed over in full. If you want another developer to take it on in three years, nothing stops you. That is not the usual arrangement, and it is deliberate.

It integrates with what you already run. Xero, Shopify, your CRM, your supplier feeds. Most of the value in a custom build comes from things finally talking to each other — see system integrations.

Not sure you need custom software yet? That is a fair question, and the honest answer is often no. Five signs your business has outgrown spreadsheets walks through where the line actually sits.

How a project runs

  1. A conversation about the problem, not the software Usually an hour. What is slow, what gets re-typed, what breaks when someone is on leave. Often this alone identifies a fix that does not need a build.
  2. A written scope and a fixed price You get the full picture before committing to anything — what is being built, what it costs, and when it lands. No hourly meter, no scope creep invoices.
  3. Built in working stages You see and use real parts of the system every couple of weeks. Nothing disappears into a six-month black box, and course corrections happen while they are still cheap.
  4. Testing with your real data Your actual jobs, your actual pricing, your actual edge cases — because the edge cases are where these systems fail.
  5. Handover and support Code, data and documentation are yours. Ongoing support is available through a care plan, but it is a choice, not a lock-in.

Industries we know

The business is new; the experience behind it is not. We have built and worked on production systems in construction, engineering, metal fabrication, warehousing, logistics, medical and allied health, funeral services and local government — sectors where the software has to survive contact with real operational mess, not just a demo.

That matters more than it sounds. Someone who has already built a quoting engine for a fabrication shop does not need three weeks to understand why your material offcuts change the price.

What it costs

Real ranges, not "contact us for pricing":

  • $8,000 – $15,000 — a focused tool replacing one painful spreadsheet or manual process. Single purpose, done properly.
  • $15,000 – $30,000 — a multi-user business system: jobs, customers, scheduling, reporting, one or two integrations.
  • $30,000 – $45,000+ — a system that runs the business: complex pricing logic, multiple roles and permissions, field access, several integrations, real reporting.

Hosting and maintenance typically run $50–$300 a month depending on size. You get a fixed number for your project before any work starts, and the number does not move unless you change what you asked for. Our full guide to what software and websites cost in Australia goes deeper.

Common questions

How much does custom software cost in Australia?

Most small business systems land between $8,000 and $45,000 depending on scope. A single-purpose tool replacing one spreadsheet sits at the lower end; a multi-user system with scheduling, quoting, invoicing and integrations sits at the upper end. You get a fixed price before any work starts.

How long does it take to build?

A focused first version typically takes six to twelve weeks. We deliver in working stages rather than disappearing for six months, so you are using part of the system while the rest is still being built.

Do I own the code?

Yes — source code and data, handed over in full. There is no licence that stops you taking it to another developer.

What happens if you get hit by a bus?

A fair question to ask any solo developer. You hold the code and the documentation from the first delivery, not at the end. The system is built with standard tools any competent developer can pick up — no proprietary framework only one person understands.

Do you work with businesses outside Brisbane?

Yes. Brisbane and South East Queensland clients can meet in person; everywhere else works remotely, which is how most of these projects run anyway.
